That was the 2009 simul, not this year. The game appeared in the Feb 2010 issue of CHESS, p54. Perhaps someone else can key it in if it doesn't appear anywhere online. I'm a bit busy!Jon D'Souza-Eva wrote:Anyone got the moves for this one?London Chess Classic guest of honour Viktor Korchnoi's first of two simuls was a great success as 'Viktor the Terrible' scored 21 wins, four draws and one loss. Jamie Morgan was the winner with a 21 move victory in a Benko Gambit.

So it was. I missed the year on the page about "Korchnoi Simuls": http://www.londonchessclassic.com/festi ... simuls.htmJohn Saunders wrote:That was the 2009 simul, not this year. If I was playing Korchnoi I'd get someone to bring me a blueberry yogurt halfway through the game.

Re: LCC - the games!
I'm having trouble with the live games at the moment, so I don't know whether Carlsen has managed to cause problems for Howell in the run up to the time control (I last saw it at move 35, when he had some edge). If Carlsen were to win, there would be three leaders on 9/15, with Carlsen getting the benefit of the scoring system (he would normally have 3/5 whilst the others would have 3.5/5). Naka and Kramnik (assuming he draws with Adams) would just lag behind with 8/15, also on 3/5 in traditional terms.
Odd to think that Kramnik would not be among the three leaders. He's only had one bad game, hasn't he? And he has the two highest rated players left to play - though that's as much of a problem for them as for him. Meanwhile Luke has played the highest rated players already, but still has an ambitious Naka to play (though I can't think of any particularly good game by Naka; each of his wins in this tournament feel like presents. When he actually built up a winning position by impressive play, v Howell, he proceeded to gratuitously blow it by playing at blitz speed). Naka v Luke is at least as big a game as Anand v Kramnik in the last round.

Re: LCC - the games!
It just tanked for me too - at move 39. Pawns all on the kingside by then. Didn't take a close enough look to be able to give an opinion as to an assessment (not that that would be particularly worth having anyway).Jonathan Rogers wrote:I'm having trouble with the live games at the moment, so I don't know whether Carlsen has managed to cause problems for Howell in the run up to the time control (I last saw it at move 35, when he had some edge).

Seems Howell just jeopardised his own position by 42 g5? Qa4! and Carlsen has serious winning chances for the first time in the game.

It's back for me too. Howell's g5 looks a touch insane to me, though not necessarily fatal. Why??! Well, I expect Carlsen to grind this out whatever the objective assessment.

Reason: Ok 43... Qd1 means I stay retired from the game
