We are obviously far advanced with technology in ManchesterStewart Reuben wrote:But I get back 3 July and want to record other things while I'm away. My system doesn't led itself to changing channels while away.
I assume Corrie has an omnibus edition broadcast at the end of the week, so you can record it then as you will be back (ITV2 or on the ITV player)

Re: Chess on TV
Had a look at that. Amused that they are using a clock, a posh wooden board. And a horrendous chess set that makes my eyes hurt. Why do they always do that? Can TV producers never take advice from a real chess player and USE A STANDARD STAUNTON PATTERN SET? Exit left, muttering great oaths.Mick Norris wrote:http://coronationstreetupdates.blogspot ... round.html

Re: Chess on TV
Well, they didn't ask us to supply the equipment, otherwise it would have been a digital clock (maybe they were trying to replicate authentic Lancashire chess conditions )

Re: Chess on TV
I did briefly catch some chess on Coronation Street last night, and the chess set was not good
The chess was taken firstly from the Manchester League (Eccles-Urmston) and secondly from the 4NCL (a Manticores game)
The game in a later episode is completely made up
Matthews confirms the chess set was horrible to work with

Re: Chess on TV
I have managed to see a few episods where chess reared its ugly head.
I thought the most authentic was where the oldish man used the pepper and salt cellars to represent the piece and was reading a chess book. I didn't see the name.
In other scenes I don't see the point of the chess clock. it isn't likely the man and woman would have played blitz. I always advise using a mechanical clock. It is so much easier to set than a digital one.
An articl by Matthew Turner (is it?) o being the advisor would be interesting. These things always are.

Slight deviation. Radio rather than TV, from A Prairie Home Companion broadcast on 28 July 2012, listen to Garrison Keillor's story about losing to his grandson Freddie at chess.

Chess was on BBC 10 o'clock news tonight: Being played in public in Atlanta, it was used by Mark Mardell as a background to his report on the upcoming Democratic convention.

Re: Chess on TV
this thread was started in 2007 by me. 5 years on still no chess programmes on tv but we do get a tv quiz show personality as a president (loathed to say celeb unless more major roles come up maybe in some legal thriller by the looks of other threads). we have made progress.....i think.
