Personally I take no notice of prize funds whatsoever, on the grounds that I'm extremely unlikely to win any prizes....

12.6 of the Laws of chess: It is forbidden to distract or annoy the opponent in any manner whatsoever.
But my opponents do it all the time by playing better moves than me. Why are they never defaulted?
