I was sorry to read today that the Guardian has scrapped its weekly chess column on Tuesdays jointly written by Daniel King and Ronan Bennett. Today is the last one.

This jas been an excellent column and it is going to be a sad loss.

Can I suggest that all Guardian readers write and complain? Write to [email protected]. (If you use email you must give your full postal address and a daytime telephone number.)

I recall there was some scepticism when the King/Bennett effort superceded Nigel Short's column there five years ago. But it has proved a great success, IMO.

Its axing is another blow to chess in the British media :(

A great shame. Is there a list of chess columns still running in the major UK newspapers?

The Telegraph has Pein on weekdays and Adams on Saturdays; not sure about any others.

Daily Telegraph Pein Monday-Saturday. Adams Saturday
Sunday Telegraph Pein.
Times Keene Monday-Saturday
Sunday Times Keene
Spectator Keene
Guardian Barden Saturday
Financial Times Barden Sunday. I may have these two muddled up.
Independent Speelman Monday-Saturday
Observer

There may be a couple of errors

You can find some column ists listed in the ECF YearBook, but it is not very accurate and certainly not complete.

Sorry to hear the Bennett/King Guardian column has gone. I liked that one due to it's format of 'conversation between club player and master coach', which I thought was helpful and interesting, and also was a good complement to Leonard Barden's more 'classical' what's-going-on-in-chess weekend column.

As a lifelong Graun reader will try and find a moment to email the Readers Ed and express my displeasure.

The Financial Times column appears on Saturday in the Life and Arts weekend section. My daily Evening Standard column, launched in June 1956 and probably the longest running daily column in all journalism without a single day missed, can be viewed free online at www.standard.co.uk/chess.
John Henderson's daily column continues in The Scotsman.

Any prospect of it ever returning to print?

It would be very nice to see it back in print.

Is the Express McShane column no longer running?

I didn't include Luke's column because I am not sure whether it is still running. The ECF List in the YearBook of journalists is virtually no help at all.
Dominic Lawson and Tim soanton are here in Gibraltar but, of course, neither are chess columnists.

Ta. Does anybody know whether or not it is, in fact, still running?

Are you familiar with the modern Daily Express? I'm not sure it's something you'll get too many people owning up to glancing at, let alone reading...

Well, there's a reason why I'm asking rather than finding our myself...
