"The BWCA is still a British title and a good one at that."

No doubt - but it is not THE British title.

I have won various national Civil Service chess tournaments, (from Blitz and lightning, through proper chess to postal) open to all current and former Civil Servants, but I would not call myself British Champion (and the best players frequently did not enter).

I think the press like to talk up the interviewees and it sounds better if they're "champions".

Susan Polgar is always billed as 4-times world champion.

Andrew Flintoff played some junior events so he was duly called a champion somewhere - apologies to him if he won something!

Knew Rachel a fair few years back. Top lass. She was a decent player. I think she went to a fair few tournaments, including the British, a genuine player as a kid. Wouldn't surprise me too much to read that she had won one of the titles somewhere along the way. Yes, her younger sister Ellie played too, I do recall.
Yes, from South London/North Kent (get confused with the Bromley/Beckenham type places).
Friendly sort too, clearly smart, I wish her well. Politically, seems she may well be going places....cabinet in a few years...?

If she's in the top five available players then yes. She seems somewhat short on games and graded a long way below recent team members albeit I'm not sure how many of the four grading records below belong to her.

It's nice to see she retains an interest in the game.
Can anyone else see the looming headline:

I'm alerting Richard Haddrell.

You'd think she would be expecting some grading points from beating Aronian, Kramnik, Luke and Howell at the same time!
