I'm still not convinced that trying to run the event in secret is a great idea.

The event is not being run in secret. Otherwise, Kevin, how would you know about it?
It is being run without the public having access to see the games with players present in the same room moving the pieces. It seems most unlikely the games will not go out on the web. It is also possible, for all I know, there will be webcams. Both are described as 'live transmission'.
Why hold it this way at considerable expense, rather than in a less central and cheaper venue, is another question. Perhaps it is intended to invite selected guests who have valuable status.

That's what I meant by secret! The advertising has trumpeted that the tournament is in the exciting city of London, whereas for all the public knows, it could be in somebody's loft.
