xkcd

Today's xkcd cartoon has a chess theme: http://xkcd.com/1078/. Hover the mouse over the cartoon for some novel chess notation.

A search for 'chess' on that site will find a few more. This one is clever: http://xkcd.com/249/.

And, until he corrected both the picture and the popup text, there were two errors: popup said 'Ne3' instead of 'Nf3' and Black's K&Q were interposed :-)

More chess in xkcd: Think Logically. I like the hidden title text:

'I've developed a more logical set of rules but the people on the chess community have a bunch of stupid emotional biases and won't reply to my posts.'

That may be closer to the truth than he realises. ;-)

I think I might detect a hint in there of oblique tribute (in his centenary year) to Alan Turing, who as many on here will know wrote perhaps the earliest chess-playing algorithm, but was famously a weak player himself.
