GEOFF
CHANCELLOR OF THE EXCHEQUER has that name because they used to use a chequered board and prepare the budget by putting a number of counters on a square to indicate how much they wanted to spend on a particular project. Thus they could count the tally down the files and list the objective on the rank.

Thanks Stewart,
That ticks my box to learn something everyday. (Now I'll have to fit that into a joke.)
I've used up a Christmas gift token on a selection of Tony Hancocks DVD's. Not the famous ones, The Radio Ham and Blood Donor etc I got those years ago. This is a selection of lesser known episodes. One is called 'The Succession' first aired in 1961 and Hancock has decided to get married. He suggests as a honeymoon going to Hastings to visit the Chess Congress.

I had
This is Hancock: Wild Man of the Woods / A Sunday Afternoon at Home on vinyl LP rather like this one:

which I inherited from my parents.
We appear to have drifted way from the theme of these posts somewhat...
I blame Geoff.

Re: Media comments on chess
HI John,
I think we are still in the 'Chess in the media' fold. You said 'I had.' does that mean you went to Hastings during the congress for your honeymoon. I went to Scarborough but sadly not during a chess tournament The most famous mention of chess with Hancock is the Radio Ham with him making impossible moves. ' 'King's Pawn to Queen's Bishop Three.'

And what else are are we going to see if we 'scroll down a bit'
I've noticed this is a common trait here. A link and nothing else. I think we should be given a hint of what is in store if we go channel hopping.
I know when I give a link it also has a suggestion of what it is about. So on principle I will not be going to 'scroll down a bit' and take the chance I might miss something.

Hi John,
I see Kevin did a bit if an edit. I bet he thinks I'm a grumpy old sod.
So I did hit it after the edit and 'scrolled down' the picture of the horse is amazing.

FIDE, as the federation is known, fined Anna-Maja Kazarian €100 ($111) for wearing what the organization’s arbiters deemed "sports shoes” during the tournament this week.

Some others were fined, but she complained.

Hi Roland.
I noticed this as well (but not in the Japan Times!) I recalled Magnus did a deal with Puma.
So it appears he is sponsoring sneakers he is not allowed to wear.

Anyone else watching the latest series of ' The Traitors ' ? One of the contestants, Anthony, cites his profession as a Chess Coach. The 3rd episode will be on tonight.
Let's wish him good luck !
