9 wins in 12 years though. Are there that many National school competitions ?

Coached at a school chess club where pupils won individual titles is somewhat more plausible is it not?

Epsca used to hold a National Small Schools U11 Championship alongside their main National Schools u9/u11 Championships.
The school Phil was involved in won that title many times before going on to win the main u9 and u11 titles for three consecutive years. They also won the ECF u11 schools championships.

The question was: Which well-known world chess champion did nothing without first consulting Stewart Reuben

David, are you two courting?
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

David, I like your answer.

I have asked Classic FM what the actual question was, but have not had a reply yet.

From yesterday's Sun, find the 7 chess terms. (I found 8. if you include 'net' as in mating net)

It looks like the Sun's Word Search composer thought of doing something about Wimbledon
There is 'BAT', 'NET, and 'TENNID' in there. Then he ran out of ideas and switched to chess.

Enjoy.

I found 13, or 14 if you include one that appears twice:

ROOK
QUEEN
PAWN
BOARD
GAME
ENDGAME
GAMBIT
CAPTURE
(mating) NET
chess is a WAR game
a knight on the RIM is dim
MAG(azine) - twice
you need GRIT to succeed in chess

There are a few others I could make a case for as well.

I couldn't quite make the arbiters' favourite word, DINNER, though.

Without being sure of the rules for making words, what about the rows which run

DRQEWIR
NDINNET ?

R
DINNER DINNE

Sun's puzzles are a great way of filling a wet and rainy day after watching Chelsea beat Arsenal 3-0 to resume normal service.

Behind the Telegraph paywall, so you only see the first few paragraphs

It's by Leon Watson and would appear to make much the same comment as appeared on the ejh blog.
