An interview in today's Telegraph "Ultratravel" magazine with Lily James (Downton Abbey, War and Peace, Cinderella etc), talking of a trip to Hamilton Island, Australia, says,

"We had a villa that was really secluded, with beautiful views, and I played chess all day, read and sunbathed."

This might be true, but RT is not exactly a reliable source where Ukraine is concerned.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

From ITV London News:
ITV London News wrote:For the past 16 years the Carnegie Library has hosted a chess club run by Edward Ochagavia, a survivor of the Nazi siege of Stalingrad in 1942.

"I'm a very old man. I survived the Stalingrad battle in 1942, but at the moment I can't survive the Lambeth Council closure of the Carnegie Library."

– EDWARD OCHAGAVIA, CHESS CLUB FOUNDER"
(Lambeth Council is closing Carnegie Library in Herne Hill. It will reopen in 2017 as a gym with token self-service library.)

Many world-class chess players are simply not cut out for the nonstop self-promotion that celebrity culture demands.

I was wondering whether the FIDE President would feature in the Panama revelations.

No, or not yet, but the 1972 Champion gets a mention.

The slightly suspect nature of his 1992 Serbian prize money presumably contributed to the use of a complex structure designed to maintain secrecy.

Former BCF/ECF sponsor, Smith & Williamson, gets a name check, not for chess, but for involvement with the Blairmore fund run by Cameron senior and others.

How four men survived as hostages of IS: 'We played chess a lot'. Harrowing stuff. Chess is obviously only a small part of the story.

An electrician who worked with Stanley Kubrick on The Shining:
We played chess now and then. He’d slaughter me.

"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Standard football code for "it's still 0-0"

But what would have to happen in a game of chess for us to say "it's like a game of football"? :?

Either a biting incident or something to do with the arbiter.

The spectators chanting obscene slogans at the players, while officials try desperately but ineffectually to remove them from the playing area.
