Do you mean U10? I remember playing him just afterwards (a draw) and thought it was the older age group.

Excellent, that gives me a 4 based on our London League game last season.

Thanks Stewart. I have an MN4 via. Penrose simul. as he is MN3. I also have a FN 3 as I beat John Littlewood in 2006 and he beat Uhlmann who beat Fischer. This is more fun than playing chess !

I was hoping someone might explain, but how do you get a half number like that??

That's what I thought. Fischer/Barden v. Penrose/Clarke (1961) Adjudicated draw by Dr.Ewue.

Of course all of us who have played Leonard also get an Fischer fraction. Presumably Dr Euwe also got a fraction for that game and also Clarke and Penrose. My head swims.

I've found a path for me that's 13 links long. I tried to optimise in the early links by trying to find the highest grades of opponents (going back only 1-3 years in the ECF database).

Nicky Chorley 1-0 Adrian Rutkowski (London League, 2014-11-26. Pretty happy with this win :D)
Adrian Rutkowski 1-0 Victor Bluett (Surrey League, 2014-02-26)
Matt Darville 0-1 Victor Bluett (Surrey League, 2013-04-10)
Matt Darville 1-0 Daniel Staples (CCF Dicky White Tournament, 2014-01-06)
Daniel Staples 1-0 Daniel Farkas (Central London League, 2014-02-13)
Daniel Farkas 1-0 Guillaume Camus (London League, 2014-03-24)
Jovanka Houska 0-1 Guillaume Camus (4NCL, 2014-05-03)
Jovanka Houska 1-0 Antoaneta Stefanova (Women's Chess Olympiad, 2008-11-19)
Antoaneta Stefanova 1-0 Radoslaw Wojtaszek (Tradewise Gibraltar, 2013-01-24)
Veselin Topalov 0-1 Radoslaw Wojtaszek (European Club Cup, 2013-10-25)
Veselin Topalov 1-0 Vladimir Kramnik (Candidates Tournament, 2014-03-19)
Vladimir Kramnik 1-0 Anatoly Karpov (Dortmund, 1997-07-04)
Anatoly Karpov 1-0 Boris Spassky (Tilburg, 1980-11-29)
Boris Spassky 1-0 Robert Fischer (World Championship, 1972-07-11)

The extent of your research alone is impressive let alone the final result.. How long did that take?

Off-hand, I can find an improvement for you:

Nicky Chorley 1-0 Adrian Rutkowski (London League, 2014-11-26. Pretty happy with this win :D)
Adrian Rutkowski 1-0 Victor Bluett (Surrey League, 2014-02-26)
Matt Darville 0-1 Victor Bluett (Surrey League, 2013-04-10)
Matt Darville 1-0 Daniel Staples (CCF Dicky White Tournament, 2014-01-06)
Daniel Staples 1-0 Richard Bryant (E2E4 Sunningdale Easter, 19/04/2014)
Richard Bryant 1-0 Rob Thompson (Paignton Congress, 04/09/2011)

From there I've beaten John Littlewood (in 2009), and the path becomes well trodden. This would give you a number of 8. I'm sure that this could be reduced further, but perhaps not in a route that includes me.
True glory lies in doing what deserves to be written; in writing what deserves to be read.

In which case I have a Fischer and Kasparov number too. I always imagined I hadn’t.

I'd be surprised if there's any active English player over about, say, 40, who has a Kasparov number greater than 5 or 6. Adams and Short have both beaten Kasparov, so are 1s. There must be lots of people who beat them when they were young players who will be 2s, and you're already including average club players who will have lost to lots of other average players.

Add on 2 for Fischer numbers, and then apply the above, so older players are unlikely to have a Fischer number greater than 7 or 8.

(Anyone who's beaten me is no more than Kasparov 3, Fischer 5).
