January ECF Ratings

Post by Joey Stewart » Thu Jan 16, 2014 12:54 pm

Do you think they will come out soon? The summer ones were quite prompt but these are taking a little longer then usual.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

Cut off date was December 31st, so we are only 16 days in. With Hastings finishing on the 5th is included, that's only 11. Last year it was end January, end July as the publication points. Arguably end July is the easier deadline as leagues are completed by May 31st at the latest.

Judging by forum threads from last year they appeared on 26th January 2013.

Maybe the precise date of publication is documented somewhere. Would be nice to have that published so we can see how things vary from year to year. Having said that, I'd prefer the list to be delayed a bit and accurate and include as many results as possible, rather than rushed and/or late results ending up in the next list. It does mean that the board orders for some league games (some allow adjustment according to the January grades) will be a bit out of kilter for January, but that is unavoidable.

From the Help section on the grading database site:

Publishing schedule
Grading lists are produced twice a year in late January and late July, with playing cutoff dates of 31st December and 30th June. Please do not contact the Grading Administrator to ask exactly when a list will appear. He will not know, with any certainty, until it appears.

The date for submission of the grading data has not yet been reached, so you can't expect the grades themselves for another week or maybe more

Local graders have till 20th January to submit their results to the administrator. There is some tidying up and checking to do after that. We prefer to attempt to get it right first time, so there is no scheduled date of publication.

Indeed. Neither does the Director of Home Chess, if it makes everyone else feel better. :?
