I remember an Andrew Martin commentary on the british a few years ago, where combination pin/skewers were discussed (I think Rook in front of Rook) and some debate about the correct terminology ... kebab was suggested.

I always understood that the authoritative source for all this was "Chess for Children". That's how I was taught it, anyway!

I think that is what I am looking for....Black Rooks on d5 and a8 and White Bishop on f3. is it?

That is (still) commonly known as a skewer in English.

A piece may be pinned against a key square not just another piece. eg white to move:-


If W plays Rh7 the knight is pinned against the square a7. moving the knight results in Ra7 mate.

If black attempts to free himself with Kb7 white replies Nd4 and the Knight on g7 is pinned against the black king.

For me, very. If only to make the page look easier to read.
The book you are translating is a beginner's book. It definitely needs the diagrams.

I have made diagrams, but they differ in size and resolution, particularly since I am forced to juxtapose some diagrams sometimes.

Assuming you mean the UK and not England, Quality Chess are based in Scotland.

CHESS is published in England by CHESS & Bridge Ltd.

British Chess Magazine is published in England by British Chess Magazine Ltd.

Kingpin is / was published in England (last one in 2011 however)

Batsford is now part of the Pavillion Books Group and has recently published "The Batsford Book of Chess: from beginner to winner" by Sean Marsh

Audio Chess is published in England by Audio Chess Ltd.

Oxford University Press has been active as chess publisher

ChessPublishing.Com is an on-line publisher

Ginger GM is a publisher of DVDs and is based is England

Everyman Chess and Gambit Publications are the two most prolific book and eBook chess publisher based in England.

A few UK publishers, that have published books on the game of chess.
The Harvil Press, London.
Neville Spearman, London
The Crowood Press, Marlborough, Wiltshire.
Loxwood Press, Worthing, West Sussex.
Faber & Faber was a mainstream chess book publisher, for many years.
