Chess art
I thought we had a thread on examples of chess art, but couldn't find it.
I came across the works of an artist called Wieslaw Smetek:
http://smetek.de/
In a copy of this book of his:

I noticed at the back, two artworks inspired by the Anand-Carlsen match. They don't appear to be online, but are worth looking up for the collectors and connoisseurs out there. Let's just say that they merge chess with punk!
The artworks (two of them) may also have been published in Die Zeit (German newspaper) at some point.

Thanks, Barry. I know Nette and should have mentioned her website:

Goodness, I had missed this somehow:

I didn't know Alexey Slavin had been elected President of the Samara Chess Federation!

Absolutely right. I wonder if Martin Smith has ever thought of making a book out of it; really it is a great series of articles.David Robertson wrote:One must not overlook this fabulous collection from Martin Smith

Re: Chess art
Geoff Chandler drew my attention to this painting:-

Geoff wanted to know why Kramnik is blindfolded (I assume it's just a reference to Melody Amber myself.)
I think the people standing behind Capa are meant to be Morphy and Anderssen.

Thanks David and Peter for your generous comments on my articles on the Streatham and Brixton Chess Blog. The Chess in Art collection there was initiated by the sequence of images posted by Justin Horton.
A couple of articles discuss Nette's brilliant artwork:

For chess art, join the Memorychess group on facebook, the image bank is much larger than anything else you will find on line and well categorized.
