CJdeM in the London marathon
Our erstwhile President runs today. He is included in what is called the Face Race for celebrities. Let's hope his race number covers up the t-shirt. He hopes to beat 3 hours. That's fairly quick.

Don't suppose anybody met him at the end to touch him for the money he owes us.

Re: CJdeM in the London marathon
Assuming "us" to be the ECF, I think it was the question of the expenses claimed for his trip to Istanbul for the FIDE Congress in 2012 as ECF President, when he attended hardly any meetings. Against that, how much personal contribution did he make to the finances of the 2011 British Championship Congress which was never fully made public? It probably never would be as amounts paid as appearance fees may not have been totally put through the ECF's books. The ECF managed to publish a set of accounts to audit satisfaction, but they may not have told the whole story. If he privately paid for participation of some of the players, that's not something you expect to see in the ECF books anyway.Nick Burrows wrote:What money does he owe us?

I don't suppose that anybody spotted a celebrity English chess player running in a penguin suit?

I assume it refers to this.Nick Burrows wrote:What money does he owe us?
I think he resigned while in Istanbul, saying that he had got another chess related job that was incompatible with being ECF President, the details of which he couldn't disclose. I don't think the details of the new job ever have been made public.ECF AGM Minutes, October 2012 wrote:AMc raised an issue over the expenses paid to the past President, CJ de Mooi, for his visit on ECF business to Istanbul. AF advised that his expenses had been paid on the provision of receipts and the amount was far short of his total costs for the trip. MG also added that the ECF had agreed that he should attend and there had been informal discussions on the role he should play. SR also commented that he was active at the meetings.
Proposal by AM as amended by others: “It is proposed that the Board investigates whether Mr Mooi adequately fulfilled his role as representative in Istanbul, and if not adequately fulfilled, seek to reclaim his expenses paid from his date of resignation” in favour 15, against 12
MG confirmed that the Board would follow this instruction.

LOL, even though it might spread a little ray of sunshine, you'd have to be really keen to run in a penguin suit.

That is true, we learned of the resignation the day before the meeting he was in Istanbul to attend. I had the unfortunate task of passing on the info to the FIDE Delegate during dinner.Ian Thompson wrote: I think he resigned while in Istanbul, saying that he had got another chess related job that was incompatible with being ECF President, the details of which he couldn't disclose. Wonder why they were all wearing Sussex University shirts/singlets? None of them had any connection with the place that I'm aware of.

(He doesn't let you resign and start again, either.)
