The newly appointed Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport is John Whittingdale MP (Maldon, 60.6%).

Is anything known about his attitudes towards chess, chess in schools etc?

Is there a chess club for Maldon that could perhaps invite his honorary membership?

All I've heard is that he is not very well disposed towards the BBC and wants to revamp/defang the licence fee?!
