Was there a closer league finish this season?
http://chessit.co.uk/Link%20Buttons/League%20Tables.htm
From the Bristol League:
1st: Downend A. Played 18, Match points 27, Game Points 70
2nd: Horfield A. Played: 18, Match points 27, Game Points 69.
And whilst I'm talking about the Bristol League, any other leagues where a team featuring a regularly- playing IM got relegated?

Bucks League was Wycombe & Hazlemere 1 and Bourne End 1, both with 11 wins from 12, Wycombe winning by one game point, 54.5 to 53.5. Had the game points been level, Bourne End would have won by scoring 4-2 and 2.5-3.5 in the direct matches.benedgell wrote:From the Bristol League:
In their final match, Wycombe 1 needed to score 5.5. The opposition was Bourne End 2 who were unable to prevent a clean sweep.

The Bucks League also came down to game-points. In the last match of the season Wycombe and Hazlemere travelled to play the second team of the other title challengers needing to win 5.5:05 to win on game points. Clocking up the first five points was fairly straightforward, but the attempt to win a rook and pawn ending on the bottom board swung wildly from one side to the next before the full point was collected, in the last couple of minutes of the season. That's two years running the competition has gone to the last match.
I see Roger and I have posted almost simultaneously - do I win on game-points?

Good attitude that with the shared title
I don't honestly see the need to tie break any of these sorts of leagues on game points, or otherwise, but people do seem to prefer it.

Dumbarton and District Division 2
played won drew lost pts boards
Giffnock 7 4 0 3 8 17.5
Concord 7 3 2 2 8 15
Bearsden 7 4 0 3 8 14
Paisley 7 4 0 3 8 13.5
Quite a small division, only eight teams of four boards, but oh so close.

It's likely that the arbitrarily slimmed down rules don't allow for more tie-breaks. It's ok in the top division, but a problem where promotion and relegation are involved...
