Karpov 1972 Simul vs Centymca: All 26 Games on Britbase

Another interesting addition to Britbase: the 26 games which Anatoly Karpov played in a simul versus Centymca (London Central YMCA) on 22 January 1972.

Jimmy Adams included these in his 69-page booklet K is for Karpov in 1974. Very few of them can be found in other sources. Karpov was given quite a rough ride by a strong field, scoring +17, =4, -5. Those who beat the soon-to-be world champion were Terry Fox, Bill Linton, Alan McDonnell, Ron Spurgeon and George Szaszvari. Those who drew were Ray Cannon, George Dickson, Fred Ingram and Simon Spivack, then aged 11 years 10 months. To give an idea of the strength of the field, Karpov played (and beat) the Canadian player Irvin Lipnowski who, not long afterwards, had a rating of 2400.
