I was on that show in about 1988. I got both questions wrong and was the first to sit down.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Came fourth. Just missing the finale. Couple of nasty questions at the end. He was also dressed quite smartly which was a credit to him. Chess was mentioned just once when Sandy asked what specialist subject Danny would have liked to have been asked.

There were some relatively high profile winners from within the chess community on Fifteen to One. I remember CJ de Mooi winning a heat and Robin Mackley (forgotten now but he was the BCF's publicity officer for many years) won several times. Even better still Matty Watton who was a strong player for York RI chess club at the time made several very high scores and appeared in the Grand Final more than once.

Felix Kwiatkowski did very well once but was eliminated on how many yards the penalty spot is from the goal, I seem to recall.

In the absence of an understanding of the beautiful game, a knowledge of German films (" Die Angst des Tormanns beim Elfmeter") and an ability to convert from metric to imperial might have helped.
To be fair, from what I remember of Feliks the latter two would have been much more up his alley than the former one.

In the current format, players get two or three goes (unless they reach the last 3), so it might well be worth watching this week to see if he's on again.
I had a similar experience to Justin, although I got the Shakespeare question right before falling away. However, my last question was something like, "With what would a chrematist be obsessed?" I still have never met anyone who knew the answer to that! The next question asked related to Mexican waves, which is a bit simpler I submit.
I have been on the short list for the last few series and "may" be recording next month.

Early exit for Danny today. A wrong answer in round one ... the question seemed difficult to me. His second round question was easy and he knew the answer, but somehow it came out wrong. Tough to take.
