Need to work on your English if you want to start translating.

Soheil is not commencing from a standing start - he has already taken a running jump with both his translating and English. Unfortunately the (bruised?) fruits of his labours - with our compos(i)ting assistance - are not fully available to us.

And, even if they were we are in no position to partake of them since the days of the amateur English orientalists are long gone. Here's the tantalising taster Soheil supplied us -

And there was me thinking I had a warped sense of humour. Tantalizing?

... Tantalizing?
You'd have got me going on that if this were the English Lang. thread.

But it's a book thread and I claim prosodic license protection since I cannot abide the Americanism of using 'z' instead of 's'.

Even when 'z' is used in both British and American English I fight back against the tide by turning 'Zs' to 'Ss'.

How warped is that?

Christ almighty, just do everyone a favour and go and watch tv instead yeah. You think you are being clever but you're not. This has gone beyond tedious already. How old are you? 15?

They say that travel broadens the mind and in your case that seems to have happened to such an extent that you have a brain the size of a planet. Problem is - your mental world is so barren you have to return to a place like this for supplies.

I haven't got a TV and only come to the forum for edification and amusement, but I've better things to do than bandy words with a pompous ass.

I think he was rated around 140 at the time so the bookies were more than happy to take his money. I think GM Gordon said if you plug away you will eventually get there but I have my doubts. I believe he went off to China to meet some girl and abandoned the project
Is that the person who used to post on here quite a lot circa 2010-11? Have forgotten their name unfortunately.......

In the same team as me, no less. I am sure his rating would be higher if he was not playing in the dodgy london chess leagues with their strange rules - he can knock out a pretty decent game in 4ncl and tournament play, as his learning of opening theory and thematic endgames is pretty good. Should be on course to be in the 190-200 region sometime soon, so watch this space yet to see the title hunt begin.

Of course, being 1900 fide is one of the worst places to be in the UK these days, so many strong players down there making it very hard to escape upwards. You have to be about 200 strength to fight it up into the 2000s and beyond now, so Wills lack of apparent progress is largely due to the broken grading system holding him back and making it harder to gain access to higher rated opposition.
Lose one queen and it is a disaster, Lose 1000 queens and it is just a statistic.

I don’t know how true that is across the country but it feels right in London. Since my elo collapsed by 200-250 points (while my grade stayed constant), I’ve often thought I’ve got more chance of getting up to 200 ECF than getting back to 2000 elo. Not that the former is particularly likely.

Apparently the 2008 edition had a few errors in it, for example wrong moves or misplaced pieces in some of the diagrams. There's now a 2016 edition, no idea whether they've cleaned up those errors though.

Still meant to be a great book though.
