That's 50 games and counting, and 4/5 championship titles since 1987. There was a moment this afternoon when Justin Tan had an edge as Black, but the Australian missed the active 27...Qa6 with Nc4 and Rb2, went haywire, and is now losing.

And Palliser v Pert (N) is a draw. In tonight's performance Palliser performed the role normally played by Peter Wells.

Not sure what was going on in Houska-Payne, black's 24....Rc2 looked like a horrible blunder

Adams clubhouse leader on 5. Howell should catch him, if he doesn't Jones will and one of the two will also be on 4.5 with Palliser, Pert (N), Gormally, Ward, Wells, Houska and potentially several others.
EDIT: and in fact, Eggleston may get to 5 tonight as well.

Quite an attractive game by White. Whilst I would tend to agree wth John M about the amount of horrible chess in the lower boards of the british, there are a few bright spots too.LawrenceCooper wrote:Moreby-Smith looks rather brutal.

(Rather talented!) Monkeys and type writers
Houska-Payne is quite a 'good' blunder. Perhaps even better in that could conceivably have been meant as an exchange sac for the bishop pair - the final position maybe isn't even entirely trivial to convert. Obviously not with the resignation!
Palliser has been suffering rather from time trouble at times recently, side effect of spending so much time editing books/magazines etc. He's having a good tournament so far though

Re: British 2016 Round by Round
So, are we expecting Howell - Adams Monday then?
Eggleston on 5 too, let's hope he manages to finish well enough for a GM norm - who will he play?
Gawain on 4.5 with N Pert, Gormally, Arkell, Ward, Palliser, Houska & Wells

He wasn't showing online, must have been a late finisher, glad he is doing well, must have a norm chance too?

Last online game to finish and a bit of a sad one for David Waddington who must have been very tired.

There is a second comment now, dating Adams' first appearance to 1985! Can someone with an old copy of CHESS check that? (Back then, they used to list everyone who played, what with it being a rare achievement to qualify in those days).Leonard Barden wrote:Michael Adams has not lost a game at the British Championship for 29 years. I don't remember there being any fuss about a 13 year old playing, but then I wasn't at Edinburgh at all. The Edinburgh story that I do remember from my junior days was that Sadler had to withdraw after accidentally clonking his father on the head on a pitch and putt course during the previous week.
