Agree that for me the US commentary team of Yasser - not allowed to do much seriosu analysis, with the ever so annoying Jen, followed by Maurice with what his engine saw and the truly awful phone-ins is just terrilbe. I always avoid it - Peter and Jan on Chess24 for me. Likewise the official commentary from the candidates was dire at times - though the main protagonists were good (and the main man did the olympiad too and seemed much smoother) - so maybe there is hope.

the problem is tryign to establish a monopoly for a product that frankly no-one wants to buy, because last time you tried to sell us something it was terrible.

You will probably have had an email offering you 15% off the Agon commentary prices. I did reply to the email - expressing doubts about copyright and exressing distaste for their business practice and bullying tactics. Fair play to them, I seemed to get a response from the CEO - we obviously will never see eye-to-eye over the broadcast model - but they did reply.

Talking of emails
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Doesn't seem to be there now?

If you have a user id at chessgames.com, you may have received an email about the coverage of the world championship match.

They aren't playing ball.
It is the informed opinion of Chessgames Services LLC that chess moves cannot be copyrighted under any circumstance: not for 48 hours, not for 2 hours, not even for a moment. This opinion has been upheld by numerous courts in the USA and abroad. It is not merely our right to provide the moves in a timely manner: it is our duty as chess reporters; a duty we shall not shirk.

How odd. Annoyingly I can't remember its precise content but it was to a page (Agon I think) where the name of a contact was given as Wolfgang von Kempelen.

Good Lord, Chessgames citing their duty as chess reporters. What humbugs.

Chess24 have won the lawsuit relating to their Candidates coverage, and will be covering the World Championship. Gustafsson and Svidler top the list of commentators:
