Is Nigel's 13 Kf1 a cunning plan to prepare 14 h4 ?

Well I guess given the response I guess it has to count as cunning :)
(Was there really need for black to ditch a clean pawn like that?).

So Nigel takes the lead. No slip-ups in the rook ending this time. Two games to go.

For the record I wrote that before Short blundered his queen!

Given the way the last two games have been decided, it does look like they really did need that semi break in game 2. Or more of one....

Howell has tripled isolated e-pawns in game 6; I'd have bet on quick draw today and lost.

Congratulations to Nigel Short on his hard-fought victory. I'd like to withdraw my criticism in this forum of the short draw in Game 2. No one can deny the final was hard-fought. There were 5 very tough games. I can see that in any sport or contest players may opt to take a breather, before preparing for the next phase, as indeed Magnus Carlsen did in the last classical game of the World Championship.
Nigel showed he remains a very tough competitor and David can only benefit from this kind of matchplay experience. I hope the British Knock-Out event becomes a regular, established event within the London Chess Classic. Phil Morgan
