Petrosian on talent, character and near misses

Post by Chris Rice » Fri Mar 17, 2017 9:35 am

A frankly heartbreaking interview with the Armenian Olympiad coach, Arshak Petrosian, who demonstrates why he, Peter Leko and Levon Aronian in crucial games have lacked the necessary steel to fulfil their potential.

I wonder how often Leko dreams about that final WC game with Kramnik. Fairly regularly, I suspect.

Such stories of people missing the right moves do make me feel ever so slightly better about my own mistakes over the chessboard!

Somehow I analysed all my opponent's possible moves on move 30 except the one he played (actually, I also missed 30...Ba4), and then promptly blundered when a win was probably still possible. :(
