5...Bd7 was played with the intention of meeting Qxb7 with 6...Bc6 - oops!

Here's a match card as well. I knew all about Jovanka (who must have been about 14 at the time) as I was the BCF International Director but still felt confident. She played a very nice, long, positional game, won a technically quite difficult rook ending, and Rick and I were the last to finish. Nothing to be embarrassed about a few years later of course.

I think I missed played it.

Whilst 6. g4 looks as if it may be wrong, it has been played before both in this and similar positions. It's 7. g5 which is the big mistake, with both 7. Bg2 and 7. O-O-O being possible.

Sorry I don't know ho to put it live. Was i, at 16, really so naive, warning bells didn't go up when he left a piece en prise.

I played against A Addorjan with black in another Chess Magazine Festival. 1973 I think. Andreas slaughtered me. in less than 10 moves. The press came up and asked whether it was a publishable game. I lied saying I just blundered horribly. Thus it was never published. Otherwie it would appear in anthologies. I do not have it.

Stephen Guy(?) v Reuben. Nothng to do with any embarassment on my part. But how to out the game in notation? We were skittling through the opening, possibly at another Chess Festival, possibly the British.

I still don't know how to record such an incident. So I put down 8 b3 Bxc3+ 9 resigns. Steven had written 8 resigns. Against the press came to consult me about the discrpamcy. I explained it and the game was never published.

Yep I just forgot he had a Bishop on c6. I was being a bit sarcastic of course. g5 was just awful. I also played this Nf3 almost instantly. And QxB, then realised the mate on d2. We both looked at each other and smiled and I resigned before he played it.

I recovered well after this though, went on to win the u150 a few days later and came 2nd in the other section.

Correct, although I only remembered it was a Closed Sicilian. But I staggered on to 15 moves.
Andreas plus 2 other strong players joined me and for the team blitz. We won very easily. I was very good at getting myself in the winning team for such events.
I adojurned in a later game in, I think, that event. My opponent offered me a draw. I declined it as I thought I stood much better. I analysed the posiion and came to the conclusion I was winning in two different ways. I played one of them, overlooked a zwischenzug and lost. The other variation was indeed winning. I still wake up with nightmares about that one.
