Any News?

Post by Matthew Turner » Mon Sep 01, 2008 9:33 am

I have returned to school today and there seems to have been remarkably little said about the chess for schools project over the last few weeks - is everytyhing in place for the start of the new academic year?

Matthew,
I am informed that two lots of sets have been delivered to the two schools for promotional purposes.

I would imagine that Charles WW will update us as to the agreed delivery dates of the next tranche.

I am sure its all in hand.

Our school got the following email during the summer holidays:

Thanks to John and Neill for their information, but it would be really helpful to have an update from Charles Wood or an ECF official on how things were progressing.

Has anyone seen any updates available anywhere (that I could quote...) on what seems this now rather secret project :?:
Cheers

It would be good to know what is happening. As join author, together with GM Matthew Turner, of the Certificate of Excellence which I understand is to be part of a package sent out to schools, I would like someone involved with the 'Chess in Schools Project' to respond to my e-mails.

PS Currently over 1,000 youngsters a year sit the C of E examination, we have just had our first candidates from Barbados!!

I too would like to know what's happening.

In early August I was asked to write a book for beginners based on the chessKIDS academy website, to be delivered by early September for distribution as part of the schools package. I was told I would receive a contract shortly.

I have received no contract, not been asked how the book is progressing, and my emails are not being answered.

Maybe Charles is on holiday - used to be on here all the time!

If there is a problem, then it would be nice to know. There have been plenty ready to criticise in the past on this forum - now would be a good time for an update to put minds at rest!

I clicked on the chessforschools.co.uk website today and I noticed that the registration for chess sets has closed, due to oversubscription. That must mean over 25,000 schools have applied for sets - Wow

I hear (from http://www.sccu.ndo.co.uk/bcf.htm) that the ECF board feels there should be a Director solely responsible for the Chess for Schools project. There is obviously not as yet a candidate for the projected post. The Board would appoint.

I would be very surprised if Charles W. Wood is not up for that job to be honest

No insider knowledge just an assumption :?:

Jack,
I would be very pleased if you applied and were voted in.

As you know, forum views count for diddly squat. Debranding the forum has emphasised that much.

Even if we were all Direct Members (which I'm sure many of us are) our views count for nothing,

What does matter is have you been allocated votes by an organisation that pays game fee?

You do not have to have any kind of membership status to vote and decide on important matters that could determine the direction of the ECF over the next year.

I would attend the AGM if its wasn't for the fact that it is a 4NCL weekend.

Who is able to change Council? Ans. Council!
