Venue doesn't matter. There will be a Zoom option, which we now know means that nobody will go.

Re: Ecf AGM 2022
According to the (traditional) rota it would be a Birmingam meeting but the last AGM passed a motion "Council resolves that in 2022 its Finance Meeting shall be held on 23 April 2022 and its Annual General Meeting shall be held on 15 October 2022 with the venue(s) to be determined by the Chair of Council, having consulted with the Board."

The Chair of Council is planning for Birmingham but regrettably has not yet found a totally suitable venue. On the other hand, many might say that the venue is never totally suitable! If I could rely on the truth of Nick's comment above the job would be far easier and the venue would be in Bolton-le-Sands near Carnforth in Lancashire.

Excellent location in my experience Michael, but we need to try and keep southerners from coming north and using our water!Michael Farthing wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 1:24 pmThe Chair of Council is planning for Birmingham but regrettably has not yet found a totally suitable venue. Re: Ecf AGM 2022
I recall that maybe 40 years ago, there were many complaints about meetings always being in London, so BCF put one in Peterborough(?) and the next in Derby(?) to help out. At this point everyone realised that all roads (or trains) lead to Rome, er, London. So the same people complained even more bitterly that they couldn't get to Peterborough, and why couldn't they have the meetings in London and maybe Leeds.
As Joni Mitchell so eloquently put it,
"Don't it always seem to go
That you don't know what you've got 'til it's gone"

I've heard or seen this point made before. But maybe it's worth trying a northern venue (again? Peterborough isn't that far north, is it?). Certainly the circumstances are different now and I'm conscious of northern-based people having difficult journeys to get to London.Kevin Thurlow wrote: ↑Fri Aug 12, 2022 8:39 pmI recall that maybe 40 years ago, there were many complaints about meetings always being in London, so BCF put one in Peterborough(?) and the next in Derby(?) to help out. I recall visiting Peterborough. I have vague memories of abolishing the BCF during the afternoon.

I think it was the Lancashire (e.g.) people who did not like Peterborough, which was selected as it was somewhere other than London, Birmingham or Leeds. You need somewhere with good public transport links. It would be nice if it moved about, but try a meeting in Penzance or Chester le Street and you see the problems.
Maybe, it should stick with an online system?

You are not imagining it. Bristol was used at least twice in the 1990s.
The intention at that time was that Council Meetings should rotate around all five Unions. That led to venues in Peterborough and Bristol being chosen.

Re: Ecf AGM 2022
I've heard the Birmingham NEC advertised as equidistant from Penzance and Berwick by road, at about 4h20.
As it's also apparently 4 hours from Dover allowing for M25 hell, I feel like you can't improve on Birmingham as an AGM location.

Re: Ecf AGM 2022
There's an argument which says that choice of venue shouldn't be determined solely by geography but should also reflect where players actually live. Judging by 4NCL experience, numbers are maximised if events are held south of Birmingham but north of Milton Keynes. Of course, it's not a perfect comparison as 4NCL-players and AGM-attenders are different subsets but it's indicative.
