Well done Shreyas. Held a potentially difficult ending - helped by Gukesh missing, presumably 55 Rg3.

Re: London Chess Classic 2023
I have only dipped into this tournament from time to time, but looking at yesterday's (Friday round 7) games, Tabatabaei - Vitiugov, and Niemann - Bartel are well worth a few minutes playing through. Great entertainment..

Adams-McShane, Gukesh-Tabatabaei & Vitiugov-Niemann all drawn.
Shreyas is a pawn down against Moussard.

Shreyas still a pawn down but looks to me as though he's got counterplay

Agreed. 41 Kd3 allowing Nf6 and Shreyas is right back in it. I might even prefer black now.Roger Lancaster wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2023 6:07 pmShreyas still a pawn down but looks to me as though he's got counterplay

Re: London Chess Classic 2023
After 41 Kd3 (once again, the first move after the time control was a poor one) I'd assumed that Shreyas had nothing better than 41...Qg7, which itself didn't look bad, but he found 41...Nf6 (42 ef? Rxg3+) with approximate equality. A couple more poorish moves from Moussard and Shreyas is better.

By GM standards, now a technical win. Shreyas has the bishop-pair plus an extra (passed) pawn.

Moussard is a bit unpredictable

One of those situations, I think, where the player who stood better - in this case, Moussard - lost control and suddenly all the defender's pieces, which had looked ill-placed, sprang to life. Full marks to Shreyas on defending resourcefully - Moussard has just resigned.

After what happened against Mickey and now today he will be very happy to finish the tournament.Roger Lancaster wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2023 6:52 pmOne of those situations, I think, where the player who stood better - in this case, Moussard - lost control and suddenly all the defender's pieces, which had looked ill-placed, sprang to life. Brilliant result for Shreyas, so tomorrow he needs a draw for a GM norm and Mickey needs a draw to guarantee at least a share of first

Shreyas is White for what it's worth. Will Mickey allow him an easy-ish draw?Mick Norris wrote: ↑Sat Dec 09, 2023 6:56 pmBrilliant result for Shreyas, so tomorrow he needs a draw for a GM norm and Mickey needs a draw to guarantee at least a share of first
