Publication of players' game results

Post by Carl Hibbard » Sun Aug 15, 2010 11:22 am

As per the post of Richard Haddrell here http://www.ecforum.org.uk/viewtopic.php?f=25&t=2034 a poll to get members opinion on grading site changes

I feel this is important so the more members vote the better :!:

Shouldn't this have, at least, a fifth option of "Leave it as it is"?

A second poll might be useful as well - "On a scale of 1-10, how interested are you in seeing your grading details?" If lots of people are very interested that might justify more effort being put into it than if most people aren't that bothered.

One thing I do appreciate is being able to see both my grading history and the grading history of other players. Not the detailed breakdown by year, but the grades going back several years. That way you can tell if the 170 player you beat is going up or coming down in grade, and that the 150 player you just lost to was graded 190 a few years ago. That sort of thing. A more detailed breakdown seems a logical extension to this.

I made a huge mistake (sorry...) as changing the poll when I agreed with Ian seems to have cleared the counts

I bad

If it helps, I re-voted. Maybe the other 9 or so will revote as well?

I've voted for the top one as it would be good to see everyone's details. Then you could see how people you have played who are new entrants or juniors are progressing. However, personally I think that ideally information on everybody should then be available to members only using their membership number as their password. This would then make membership much more attractive and might help towards a one member one vote system. In the real world though if it is much easier for Carl to operate with a system open to everyone then that is the best way forward.

Carl

Everyone makes a mistake from time to time. Putting it right is the main thing - and you've done that - so well done.

As for the poll, bit dumb, really? Publish everything innit? That must be the ideal, practically speaking must be straightforward as well, no messing around with members areas, passwords, access control, et cetera. How much money does this bring in, anyway? Surely with whatever financial and organisational restructuring is going to happen, you would want to do the basic things right, stop trying to charge for things that should simply be included in the basic service?

Have to increase revenue somewhere with the possible loss of the grant looming and I guess with the amount of money wasted on CfS and CoM the books probably don't look very good
