Stewart - I am catching up late on this thread but let me agree with a couple of things. Publicity would be generated by old-young and by pro-celebrity. That would get the nationals, I guess.

86 From Mike Gunn: Getting previous champions to go over games
There are about 25 alive and living in this country. Expenses for all that accept and how do we get an audience for all those?

You have old playing young and pros playing celebrities. It's not Mike's idea - I seem to recall Malcolm Pein's son playing an elderly gentleman some years ago. Be difficult to break the record - but there must be a 100 year old chess player.

Be wonderful if you could get Leonard and Jonathan - but I can't see it happening

John Moore. Old v young is a chessnut. But it often works. It was my idea that Jonathan Pein (5) play Philip Gemmell the 102 year old. I thought that surely would be a record. The Iceland CF found a 103 year old at a very similar time.
But you spark 87. Tiny child v Gawain Jones as the Champion. That has been a press puller in the past.

I have said before and got shouted down - but find some pretty girls who actually play. They just need to smile - nothing more. Chess Base go a bit over the top but that sort of thing.

There's a report on ChessBase on the Ukrainian national championships.

Whilst the likelihood of the ECF issuing an invite to the FIDE President is presumably remote, is he likely to try to gatecrash?

Is it possible to correct the typo in the header? It has been annoying me for days...

You can change the title in your own posts. The title of the first post has to be done by Stewart (or Carl presumably).Christopher Kreuzer wrote:Is it possible to correct the typo in the header? It has been annoying me for days...

I changed the first one. This seems to have changed this one.

It is not Kirsan's way to gatecrash events.
But if you like, I'll be provocative
88. Invite the President of FIDE to the opening. (I had thought the Executive Director might be more suitable.)
None of the photos of the Ukrainian event showed an idea not already listed.

How about a challenge match between the ECF Board and suitable opposition? Such an event might remind everybody that Board members are chess players and not just objects of criticism. I remember playing in a match between the BCF Management Board and the BWCA back in 1994, in which I believe that Stewart was also involved.

What about a competition similar to those they used to have in various newspapers many years ago - you try and find someone walking around in Torquay and say to them "You are the ECF President and I claim my 2/6d reward." ?

Is the winner the first person who asks "What's 2/6d?"Alan Burke wrote:What about a competition similar to those they used to have in various newspapers many years ago - you try and find someone walking around in Torquay and say to them "You are the ECF President and I claim my 2/6d reward." ?

Well, I suppose the reward might as well be £1million - because I doubt anyone will find him !
