The job description for this has now appeared.
It's at the end of this item
http://www.englishchess.org.uk/wp-conte ... airman.pdf
Commercial Director
Role:
Develops and implements a plan aimed at increasing the commercial revenues of the ECF. In particular maximizing opportunities to promote our existing events and to create new events which meet sponsors needs. Develops a network of contacts with chess connections so that the possibilities of finding sponsors who are positive to chess are improved. Co-ordinates the search for sponsors and sets standards for the ECF’s relations with them. Identifies opportunities for commercial exploitation of the website
Specific Objectives:
1. Ensure the ECF maximises income from the British Championships (including sponsorship and
contributions from the area chosen to hold the championships (e.g. local Councils, Hotels, local
businesses etc) and other ECF events.
2. Raise donations for the England Teams participation in international events
3. Raise money to help fund the Elite Development Programme.
4. Raise money to help fund Junior Development and Chess in Schools programmes.
It's a somewhat more limited role than Andrew Paulson's election address implies should be the case.
Presumably some of the practical parts of the former Director of Marketing's job description have been left behind with "Membership". Being the Board member responsible for the overview of ECF website content being one of these.

Why would anyone credible take this on? Presumably the post will be, as with other Directors, unpaid. And if you were successful in raising £££ for chess, why wouldn't you first have offered your skills to a more enticing outfit that would pay you?

Who knows?
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Who knows?
The wrong person to ask (no?) since this proposal emanates from the current Board...

No, the particular proposal to which I refer comes from Mr Paulson's candidate statement, which I quote.

That may well be the proposal to which you refer, but the proposal which is the subject of this thread (and referred to in Roger Edwards' candidate statement!) comes from the Board...

And God forbid we should refer to any other relevant material for any reason.

"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Should a commercial director be more active?
Cheers

If one of you knows a hundred chessplayers and loses one of them does he not leave the ninety-nine in the safe forum and go after the missing one until he has found him?

Lack of visits to the forum does not mean a lack of activity. The forum is not the be all and end all.

Looking here he seems pretty active as a player, that's definitely good:

A very pleasing appointment.
Bob is an active member of the
BCM 4NCL squad and was a club mate of mine at London Central YMCA in the late 1970s and very early 1980s.
I wish him well in this role.
Here is a mug shot
