It shouldn't be necessary to say this, but for people to remove, or attenpt to remove, the elected President of an organisation, without explaining to the subs-paying members of that organisation that they are doing so, or why they are doing so, is no sort of a way to proceed.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

There are multiple reasons that could be speculated:-

AP's suggestion or demand that Nigel should be removed as FIDE Delegate
The newly published letter to Kirsan not having been approved by the rest of the board
Support for Zurab in the ECU election

Or even just a general breakdown in working relationships between AP and some of the other board members.

As far as the ECU election is concerned, I would have expected overwhelming support for the candidate "none of the above" ( who isn't standing) from both non-voting and voting ECF members. But perhaps other European federations want someone as ECU President who is up for a fight, if you can forgive the pun.

I'm sure there are. But we shouldn't be speculating, we should know.

Of course none of these would have any bearing on AP's capabilities as ECF President.

The ECF exists for the benefit of English chess. That is its function. It does not exist in order to be a piece of territory to be fought over in world chess politics and its officials should not be appointed or removed on that basis.

A pukka source if ever there was one.

Well in the absence of ECF news due to a gag order any information is welcome.

My reaction to seeing this thread was, `Please tell me this is a joke.` I remember the acrimonious threads we had when AP was elected and I was one of those who suggested we give him a chance. Obviously we don't know the full substance of the dispute yet (and the situation may be retrievable) but an AP exit would mean three disastrous presidents from four. With so much talent in English chess organisation - why?

To be fair there was a reason why the board probably wanted this suppressed. At least limping on to October would allow time for a succession plan.

Welcome, Andrew.

Have you read THIS?

Should I seek protection?

And when will you resign? (yes, I do think you should - and soon) :)

I think some kind of statement from Mr Paulson might be the least that ECF members are entitled to.

(As well as some kind of statement from the movers of the No Confidence motion.)

Omnishambles?

Isn't it like the USA - no-one suitable to be President will actually put themselves through the process?
Any postings on here represent my personal views

Omnishambles/Babyshambles? (Take your pick.)

At least its all out in the open now.

Can all the ECF's horses & men put Andy & Nigel together, again?!?

[In the US the real problem is that those most suitable to be President simply cannot afford to enter the race. It is for pampered thoroughbreds only and definitely not for ponies or mustangs. Hi-ho Silver, away!]
