ECF in new Training row

Post by Roger de Coverly » Wed Jul 16, 2014 4:27 pm

The ECF seems to have got itself into a row about or with potential FIDE Training Academies.

I would have thought the ECF in principle should adopt a "hands-off" approach to commercial ventures, rather than smother them in requirements. It's an historic fact that most successful ventures have been, if not despite the BCF/ECF, facilitated by their non-interference.

Absolutely. I was struck by this part of the FIDE link.

“FIDE is concerned exclusively with chess activities. FIDE is democratically established and bases itself on the principles of equal rights of its members. FIDE is a non-profit making organisation. It rejects discriminatory treatment for national, political, racial, social or religious
reasons or on account of gender. It observes strict neutrality in the internal affairs of the national chess federations.”

I have not seen any official announcement but it appears from the FIDE website that two English FIDE Academies have just gained accreditation:
1. UK Chess Academy
2. English Chess Federation FIDE Academy

Have hostilities ceased?
