Chess Moves

Post by Roger de Coverly » Fri Jul 18, 2014 9:59 am

The ECF website is announcing a delay to Chess Moves
http://www.englishchess.org.uk/chess-moves-4/

If a new editor cannot be found, I suggest it has outlived its usefulness and could be scrapped. The SCCU did that years ago with its paper bulletin, once the same content was made available in generic form on its website. What the ECF does need is a formalised archiving policy, so that old results and reports are preserved in an easily accessible form. British Championships will have been reported on the BCF or ECF websites for over fifteen years. Try finding them though, even the Championship of five years ago.

Andrew Farthing as editor had done a tremendous job with Chess Moves over the last few issues and it would be a great shame not to continue.

AFAIK, it is produced in digital form (an app would have been nice) and maybe only printed-on-demand.

I hope a successor will be found but AF will be a hard act to follow.

John Upham might be quite a good candidate

That is very kind of you.

I would be happy to provide photographs (as I have previously done for the ECF) but my colleague, James Pratt, is Editor of British Chess Magazine and, by far, a much better person for the job.

I am assuming that the editor would be required to work for nothing. Even an honorarium (in the style of a member of the ECF grading team) would seem sensible.
