Congratulations to the thread, "The British Itself"!
At 440 posts it now dwarfs the discussion of the same ECF tournament on the ECF forum, which musters, to my reckoning, 14 posts.
Not only that, but this single thread, started after the ECF forum was born, now boasts more contributions than the entire ECF bulletin board.
Not only that, but this thread has concentrated on chess in a mature and intelligent debate, with good humour. In short it is a model for what the ECF forum boasted that it would be!
Sponsors come here! Here is the place to see why chess should be supported!

Paul Cooksey tried a couple of posts over there but they have gone now?

- no posts at all in the other place on Sunday (well, subject to Carl's comment above)
- 2 today; one of Andrew Martin's YouTube videos and one of Chris Rice's ever informative election commentaries, also posted here
- the really remarkable thing is to see Ben Edgell's post there from Friday, where he gathered together unanswered questions from the CEO's Q&A session. Nothing particularly pointed about the questions, posted straight after the end of the Q&A, yet by 3 days later nobody has bothered to reply. Truly astonishing that the ECF has lost interest in its own forum more or less instantaneously.
What in fact has the new forum achieved apart from the attempt to gag board members and ECF officials from posting here?

well there is that. P.S. Agree with Michael Farthing's post too - always enjoy the threads on the British, particularly when the IMs and GMs start commenting on the games.

It's a local social media in its own right as many of the posters have actually met in person either over the board or by playing in the same tournaments. Whilst the games are going on, we don't really know what's happening, so the guess work is part of the fun, as it is with the commentaries and audience participation at the venue.PeterFarr wrote: always enjoy the threads on the British, particularly when the IMs and GMs start commenting on the games.
Post game explanations from the players are always welcome.
On past experience, there will be a gathering to comment on the ENG games in the Olympiad. Let's hope the games aren't totally dire.
