Counties & District Correspondence Chess Championship

Post by Neill Cooper » Wed Dec 10, 2014 7:10 pm

I have just enjoyed playing two county correspondence games in the 'Ward Higgs' county championships

Since I won and drew without using a computer chess engine (which is allowed) I assume I was lucky and my opponent did the same.

The cross stable is at https://www.iccf.com/event?id=45571

Wrong forum surely? ECF has nothing to do with Ward-Higgs. It's organised by BFCC, soon to be EFCC.

Incidentally, ICCF recently saw the worst game of postal chess ever. 1.d4 g5, 2.c4 f6, What did white play now? Let's not always see the same hands...

The ECF still claims oversight , according to its website.

"The ECF have now requested that the BFCC (British Federation for Correspondence Chess http://www.bfcc-online.org.uk/) organise and run this event." http://www.englishchess.org.uk/counties ... -relaunch/

Why is this the wrong forum - doesn't the post relate to an aspect of English Chess. This isn't the English Chess Federations forum.

The question was wrong section of this forum I think i.e. should the post have been under ECF matters

Do we think the ECF Forum will last 8 years?

It would help if I typed the right move 2, not too complicated one would think, the game actually went 1d4 g5, 2.e4 f6...

And to clarify something that isn't my fault, ECF decided they were not interested in the Ward-Higgs, and asked BFCC to run it.

Ah well in that case Qh5 is mate after only 3 moves! :-D

Find it hard to believe that was a correspondence game! :|

I agree - both players were new to CC, but even so... My first thought was that it was a strange sort of protest.

I fail to see how handing over the organisation to an affiliated organisation with the necessary skills demonstrates a lack of interest in the event. On the contrary, I would have thought that it demonstrated a desire to ensure its continuation.

Yes - you could see it as an improvement. I think BFCC were a bit grumpy that ECF had run it for years and told BFCC to keep out of it, then suddenly said "we don't want it". The WH is now where it belongs, and the use of servers is an improvement of course. It stops you making a typo and losing in 3 moves!
