Thanks but the figure means nothing and it is widely inaccurate in fact I often set it to zero it is of that little value.

I can tell you Google is reporting today (just now) at 488 unique users in 28 countries and you prefer to browse the forum in your dressing gown.

Reason: The other place at 96 is a good example.

A sad reflection on our average age.
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

Carl >We didn't win web site of the year again either.<

Nor will you next year, nor will the ECF Forum (which is a subset of the ECF website). In my opinion a forum is NOT a website. We do not have an ECF Forum of the Year.

The Streatham and Brixton Chess Blog has of course won the award in the past. Apparently a blog is a website, but a forum is not.

Yes but don't hold it against us. It was many years ago and we were young and naive.

Anyhoo - blogs counting as websites or not - these days I have more chance of becoming Workd Champion than the S&BCB has of getting any recognition from the ECF.

I would suggest that the design as well as the content might be taken into consideration when judging the website of the year.

The Bulletin Board format is used by many sites but it is the content which distinguishes this site from others.

What criteria or features do others consider important in selecting the best website?

The other place has a couple of comments that made me laugh today.

Ignore the question and post a statement is a nice strategy.

I certainly don't hold it against you. I wouldn't condemn anyone for receiving and accepting an ECF Award. That would be very hypocritical of me.

David S > Apparently a blog is a website, but a forum is not.<

Incorrect. Personally I think a website is a website, a forum a forum and a blog a blog. I was not in charge of the awards system until 2014, apart from the very early days.
There would be nothing wrong with having an ECF Blog of the Year, or an ECF Forum of the Year. Currently we solely have, in this field, Website of the Year.

Take 'Book of the Year'. Clearly a book on a kindle is still a book. But what about a chess book on a computer where it is possible to play through the moves of a game? That is a different experience, in some ways better, from reading a book. Should such projects have a separate award?

I will probably be suggesting to the ECF next year that a 'Chess DVD of the Year' be introduced. Any volunteers for a new committee?

If you were to ask someone who knew a little about web sites (and the "Interweb thingy") then I would ask Tim Berners-Lee.

I am confident he would reply that a web site could be identified by being accessible via the http or https protocol with an associated URL.

The nature and content of that site is irrelevant.

You know, even if this distinction held water, there really aren't enough sites going around for it to be worth making.
