Phil Ehr from the other place
Building on last year's inaugural, I will be attending a question and answer session at the British Championships on Monday, 3 August from 8pm, moderated by Andrew Martin. Other ECF directors may join if they are available and not exhausted having worked all day to deliver the Championships. The session will be broadcast live immediately following the Championship commentary. There is plenty to talk about. All chess admin topics welcome. Andrew may select questions posted in this thread or topics posted elsewhere.

Re: Ask the CEO
I'm unconvinced about Andrew Martin as the Paxman or Dimbleby. I think it more likely he would be sarky about either the question or the questioner.
But as well as the minutes what about FIDE requiring registration to their on-line server as a condition of accessing historic rating data? Should the ECF enter into a partnership with one of the many online servers and restrict access to grading data unless people signed up?

Re: Ask the CEO
Why do I have the feeling that one might just be filtered out, talked out or turned inside out.Where is the bloody minutes is one question.
Also, I suppose, "... questions posted in this thread or topics posted elsewhere" means, of course, over yonder and not here.

I'd quite like to know how Phil shelled out a thousand pounds of our money for prizes when the event concerned paid out prizes worth seven hundred and fifty.

Re: Ask the CEO
Can the new academy compete with similar organisations and what are the benefits of the ECF offering compared to those?

Re: Ask the CEO
I would suggest that this not a meaningful question since the ECF is recognised by FIDE as the National body for chess in England and, therefore, has a dominant position.Carl Hibbard wrote:Can the new academy compete with similar organisations and what are the benefits of the ECF offering compared to those?
Other Academies, whether FIDE registered or not, might be seen as complementary to the ECF Academy.
It is interesting to see the emergence of the Guildford Chess Academy, which appears to be run independently of the Guildford Chess Club.
There is nothing to prevent parents or children signing up with one or more Academies, providing they satisfy the various individual qualifying criteria.

Re: Ask the CEO
Is the ECF leveraging its position then and how if at all is the selection process affected?
It's a good initiative but some parent is probably going to ask the question.

Re: Ask the CEO
My understanding is that it is a live event so, I guess, these questions will held in reserve and only be answered should there be too few questions from attendees.Carl Hibbard wrote:He needs some questions as there is nobody over there.Carl Hibbard wrote:Is the ECF leveraging its position then and how if at all is the selection process affected?

Hopefully, it will be a bit more informative than Prime Minister's Question Time.
