If they are fools why are you arguing with them? Perhaps we could get this thread back to the good news that arrived for engish chess, The ony question I would like answered is will mike be training as an arbiter?

RDC:

The opinions about chess or even the ECF from non chess players are of little value
The opinions of obsessives on chess administration are of even less value.

Those who don't play chess are unaffected by its administration.

Many thanks to everyone for the kind words.

Tim - on reflection I was rude to you, and I apologise.

Roger's ideal ECF CEO:

1. Must dislike the ECF and actively seek to abolish the membership scheme at the first opportunity.
2. Must be prepared to argue to the death (by boredom) every single inane post on this Forum.
3. Must not annoy Roger.

Mike Truran has failed on all of these issues over his lengthy day in charge and should be sacked. Its time to elect the only man for the job- vote de Coverley!

In an unexpected twist, the newest member of the "Arbiter nexus" is Phil Ehr who attended and passed the FIDE Arbiter Seminar held alongside the 4NCL Congress in Birmingham this weekend. Congratulations to him and everyone else who survived the exam.

Sadly two didn't pass but less than half of the people on the course were regular arbiters so the pass rate (11/13) reflected very well on Alex & Lara who were very good instructors.

Disappointing for the 2, but at least it shows the exam isn't easy

Does that mean we have 11 new members of the nexus?

Most of the participants would be familiar names as people you see behind the control desk at ECF graded events, or as voting attendees at ECF meetings.

I was only aware of three who passed that are active ECF arbiters; Dickinson, Elwin & Thorpe (albeit he's Welsh) but there may be others who perform the roles you mention that I'm not aware of and apologies to them if that's the case.
