FIDE being cryptic

Post by Roger de Coverly » Tue Feb 02, 2016 12:53 am

Being political I suppose this is "ECF" rather than "International".

Passing by the FIDE site to look up someone's new rating or even whether they had one, I noticed this.

http://www.fide.com/component/content/a ... tions.html

in which
1. The temporary suspension of the ASEAN Chess Confederation as an affiliated member of FIDE.
It would appear to be something to do with a dispute between ASEAN and the Singapore Federation and FIDE siding up to a point with Singapore.

Previously FIDE had suspended Kasparov's friend and Singapore grandee Leong, he of rules stating "you lose if you aren't sitting at the board at the start time".

The context seems more about some insult between a Singapore official and an ASEAN official, rather than being Kasparov related.

"The titles submitted by Chess in Schools have been approved by the FIDE Presidential Board". Sounds very grand. I didn't realise Chess in Schools was so important. Or am I misunderstanding something?
Ah, but I was so much older then. I'm younger than that now.

I imagine these are the School Instructor titles.
If you want a picture of the future, imagine a QR code stamped on a human face — forever.

For those interested, the chronological background can be read via the link below -

NB: Acronyms that appear are given in full below (with a European version for comparison) -

ASEAN - Association of SouthEast Asian Nations (similar to the European Common Market?)
http://www.asean.org/

ACC - ASEAN Chess Confederation (somewhat like the European Chess Union?)

SCF - Singapore Chess Federation (roughly equivalent to the English Chess Federation?)
Exco - Executive Council of the SCF (roughly equivalent to the ECF Board?)

An ever escalating dispute indirectly involving juniors. That's not uncommon. I suspect the granddaddy of all disputes is the still unresolved NCCU+Lancs v Greater Manchester.

You might have said that in the first place.

In a parallel universe (or another infinite-monkey cage) your counterpart, Rodrego Clevery, has posted about the "granddaddy of all disputes" to the utter bemusement of his readers
