The difference between the annual amount required and that obtained and/or anticipated, starting from 31.8.2017 now appears to be £33,500. Unless there are items of which we are unaware, £59,000 is required and £25,500 has been found.

The budget for 2106/17 and the "forecast" for 2015/16 show no income from sponsorship for the 2016 Olympiad but £5,611 for the 2015 European Teams.

It is a bit worrying if the ECF are having to carry out all the admin on the BCF trustees position - I thought the organisation had expired.

As for trustees etc a bit worrying if not examined but certainly where is the suggestion that this can be in perpetuity. That is something LAs have gone back to trustees saying all the rules have changed & we are not going to manage on your behalf - we suggest close & pass onto (e.g. school) particularly as costing you & us more charges & interest rates are very low to zero).

I cannot see how you can have any member fee increases, junior or otherwise & expect members to pick up these costs?

Because you think it's right or because you don't care if it's wrong?

Probably because it's almost 90 years in the future.

Just a bit like Fide Law of chess changes.

Ah, I get it. So should we care about the budget for 2016/17, or indeed 2015/16?

Ah, I get it.
At least you're not the Secretary of a FIDE Commission that places a high importance on the accuracy of four-digit numbers...

Andrew at the Office kindly arranged for the message to be sent yesterday morning (there was a slight delay in delivery due to a glitch at PaySubsOnline).

I've already received 24 responses. No doubt the Silver reps, who got their act together better than I did, have received many more. In the context of possible voting reform: I wonder how many responses leagues and congresses will receive in their consultations?

I've updated the message (link in the quoted text above) with some comments.

One thing I think I got wrong: The Five-year Plan (presented and approved at last October's AGM) relies on contributions from the trusts, sponsors and donors to offset losses and maintain Reserves at £100K. But the budgeted loss of £19,000 for 2017/18 *already* includes a £20,400 contribution from the JRYT and sponsors towards junior chess... So the loss appears real and this is a concern.

is there a list of the Proxy votes yet?

Silver responses are considerably down this time - about 30 at present.
This may be because
(a) the letter was longer
(b) it was sent as an Email attachment so perhaps a bit more effort is needed to reply than just hitting the reply button and commenting with the original text in front of you
(c) Easter has got in the way.

Feedback on this would also be interesting!

For the meeting several organisations (at least 4. I'm still working through some of the instructions I've received from elsewhere) I'm representing/ acting as proxy for have asked me to vote for option 3 for the voting reform proposals. Appears to be a fairly reasonable amount of interest from the South West/ South in some form of voting reform.

I was very surprised to read that suggestion, made by you and others.

I was first informed of John Robinson's legacy at the Turin Olympiad 2006, a few months after his death and before the JRYT was established. At the time I was told that the only stipulation which he had made was that approximately £10,000 per annum should be used to endow the British Championships.

In order to check, I obtained a copy of John's will from the Probate Registry. It confirms that what I have said above is correct.

I won't be commenting any further about the will. The terms and conditions on the Probate Registry website specify that wills are provided for private use and are not to be published without permission of the next of kin.

Thanks David - that was my recollection, but I thought I might have imagined it. At the time, I was concerned that his wishes were being incorrectly stated elsewhere.
