He would then have been 31 or 32. That is young, certainly, but not exceptionally so by modern standards. Several of today's leading British arbiters obtained the IA title at younger ages: Shohreh Bayat, Matthew Carr, Alex Holowczak and Tom Thorpe are four who immediately come to mind.
