Many thanks to Jon, John & Chris for some sterling detective work leading to the metaphorical apprehension of more chess players and their incarceration in the BritBase Penitentiary. It seems to me you chaps know your way around BritBase better than I do. Very pleasing to know that it's being put to such good use.

I note that Muriel Brown was born on the Isle of Wight. She was still living there in 1921 with her mother and father, who was a marine engineer at W Whites & Sons, Cowes, and they lived in Milton Road, Cowes. Could be another coincidence in the offing... a year later my mother's family left Glasgow, to move to Cowes, where my grandfather also found work for himself and his eldest sons in the shipbuilding trade.

"Never a frown, with Goulding Brown..." (joke pinched from 'Miss Scarlett' at chessgames dot com)
