Apologies for bumping this thread but I spotted an error in the ECF website's list of champions.

The 1970 (Coventry) British Under-21 Champion was Derek M Wise (not David Wise).
I had this name right on my own
champions' list at the BritBase site, but I will own up to there being a number of other mix-ups there as regards Derek M Wise and David Wise. I hope these are now correct on BritBase - please let me know if you find any errors - but there are still many such mistakes over the two Wises on commercial and online databases and elsewhere. Here's a guide for those wishing to make the correction on their own databases (I consulted David Wise himself and I'm pretty sure of my facts now). Derek Maurice* Wise (1949-2010) played all the extant database games from the 1960s and 1970s, which includes the 1971, 1973, 1974 and 1976 British Championships. Derek was originally from Bristol, moved to Norfolk, and later lived in the NE, which may have led to still more of a confusion with David Wise, who has always been based in the Middlesbrough area. David Wise (born 1956 - he has no middle name) played all subsequent games commonly found on databases from the 1980s onwards. David tells me he has seen some of his games given with the name David A Wise but those should be amended to David Wise.
* edited to add the middle name
