County players of the 20's and 30's

Hello
My grandfather was called Frederick William Farrar and, according to my father, was a county player or even a county champion.
The counties would be in the South East, most likely the Sussex area as he died in Brighton in 1939 aged 68.
Can anyone point me to where I might be able to confirm if he was a county player or even champion?
Much obliged
John Farrar

Hi John

I've passed your message on to Brian Denman, who has written a history of Brighton chess and will have a lot of information for you.

I'll see if I can find my copy of Brian's book as well.

Nothing in the Brighton book, I'm afraid. The name certainly rings a bell, though. I'll look through some old magazines over the weekend and get back to you - unless someone else beats me to it.
