Online sources for dates of world championship games

Post by JustinHorton » Fri May 18, 2012 4:35 pm

Are there any reliable online sources for the dates of individual world championship games? (I'm taking it that chessgames.com, while invaluable in its way, is not such a source.)

You could download and install the free demo CBLight 2009. This gives access to the ChessBase online database. A quick check against the 1972 match indicated that the dates quoted look reliable. Memo to chessgames.com - the 1972 match was played in the summer, not in January.

It looks as if ChessBase have updated their data with dates when readily available. Those with memories of the *.CBF and *.CBI formats will recall that you could only input the year of the game.

Ta. I have that database: let's see if I can work out how to use it.

Weirdly, looking up the 1954 championship gives me a game between Averbakh and Petrosian from the 1951 USSR championship, regardless of which 1954 game I click on...
