Pathé chess

Post by JustinHorton » Fri May 02, 2014 9:18 pm

I was just looking at the Guardian's weekly YouTube roundup and it said:
Pathé has uploaded its entire archive to YouTube.
So I Googled Pathé chess and there's lots of good stuff! Here for instance is Hastings 1969/70 - no sound unfortunately, but all the player-spotting you could hope for.

Here's the search results for chess on the Pathé site.
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

This stuff was availably previously (and presumably still is) from the British Pathé website itself. I think I mentioned it before once (search the forum for Pathe or Pathé). That resource, and archives of still photos (such as the Getty Hulton Archive) are something that someone should try and secure funding and time to go through and identify players, particularly while those able to identify some of the older generation are still around.

Some earlier threads:

(Not sure what happened in that last thread - I think someone who left and deleted all their posts started that thread, so it now looks like I started that thread).
