"I fear nobody but the dentist"
I recall this quote being attributed to Viktor Korchnoi. I can find reference to it here but is there a contemporary print source for the line?
"Do you play chess?"
"Yes, but I prefer a game with a better chance of cheating."

Here's something from 1981 - not quite contemporary but getting there:

The 1981 piece attributes it to an interview before or about the 1978 match.Matt Fletcher wrote:Here's something from 1981 - not quite contemporary but getting there:

It is quoted in Hartston/Keene's book from Oxford University Press on the 1974 Candidates Final.

Aha! Thanks very much. I knew I'd read it somewhere but I thought it might be Ray's 1978 book, where I couldn't find it.
You couldn't give us a page reference?

It's on page 33 (Game 3). The full quote reads, "I am afraid only of the dentist, and of nothing else in the world".JustinHorton wrote:Aha! Thanks very much. I knew I'd read it somewhere but I thought it might be Ray's 1978 book, where I couldn't find it.

Re: "I fear nobody but the dentist"
I revolt on behalf of dentists.
A good few years ago, because of loose teeth in the upper jaw, I had them removed, now because I forget to take them out sometimes, the routine of teeth removal and placing in a goblet of Steradent escapes me sometimes. My mouth is now happier because of it's articiality.
