Liverpool Chess Club 50th Anniversary Report 1888

This report is one of hundreds of reports and documents on the history of Liverpool Chess Club.
This particular report is very special as it provides an indepth view of the club, its people, its lavish celebrations, issues, and its stature amongst the very best chess clubs in the world.
The report is in the 1887/88 season and captures the 50 year anniversary celebrations of the club stating its officers, members, first ladies evening with Cinderalla pantomime, JH Blackburne Simultaneous event, Liverpool v Manchester annual derby match, lavish supper, ball, music, dancing.
It also focuses on Amos Burn and his competitive matches against other grandmasters of his time including Blackburne, Bird, Gunsberg and others.
The report finishes with glowing tribute to the bereavement of two of the greatest and most influential members of the club since its foundation Mr G.S.Spreckley and Mr Augustus Mongredian who are responsible along with many others for this wonderful club that has now proudly existed for 179 years as Liverpool Chess Club
