Re: good lines against the London System
Matt this shows that even a piece up the weaknesses of the black king white can mount a strong counter attack i had to play well to get the win-actually i have won the piece a few times, jonathan implied he thought i was a rubbish player thats why he fell for it!!! of course you know jonathan matt,

Was the above game played at Barrow? If so then I might well have watched it at the time.

If you play the London System then Black can play the Benoni.

Black can try the move order 1. d4 Nf6 2. Nf3 g6 3. Bf4 c5, or 1. d4 Nf6 2. Bf4 c5. You cannot force White to go for a Benoni structure with d5, even if it can be favourable.Francis Fields wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 4:20 pmIf you play the London System then Black can play the Benoni.
Those intent on their system regardless will just play e3 or c3 aiming for the usual pawn triangle on c3, d4 and e3.
Still, if you want to avoid being move ordered into a Pirc 150 attack lookalike, playing .. c5 is one of the approaches.
I'm thinking of the lines that might go 1. d4 Nf6 2. Bf4 g6 3. Nc3 Bg7 4. e4 . Alternatively the same thing a move later with 2. Nf3 thrown in.

If you want to really rule out the London and you don't mind the d5 advance, I think you have to go 1.d4 c5!?Roger de Coverly wrote: ↑Thu Aug 25, 2022 4:57 pmBlack can try the move order 1. d4 Nf6 2. The trouble is that most people do mind 2.d5, and for good reason.Chris Goodall wrote: ↑Sun Aug 28, 2022 3:38 pmIf you want to really rule out the London and you don't mind the d5 advance, I think you have to go 1.d4 c5!?

Sure I've seen this book mentioned on here before [EDIT: it's on the second page of this thread] though not (as far as I can see) on this thread.
I've not seen it - is it any good?

This is a most excellent no-nonsense book free of the ridiculous evangelism and flawed propaganda that has come hand-in-hand with some London System books of recent times. Not to mention many YouTube videos that are somewhat economical with the truth.JustinHorton wrote: ↑Sun Aug 28, 2022 5:25 pmSure I've seen this book mentioned on here before [EDIT: it's on the second page of this thread] though not (as far as I can see) on this thread.

LS fanatics have revised their move order to
1. d4 d5 2.Lf4 Sf6 3.e3 c5 4.c3 Sc6 5.Sd2
which is now one of the trendy ways to go deferring Sf3 to help avoid b2 issues.

Well, that was one of my reasons for buying, as previously I've been winging it where White delays Nf3. So we'll see how it goes.

Black scores brilliantly after 2.Bf4 c5 3.e3 cxd4. Can't develop the bishop outside the pawn chain if I take away your pawn chainJohn Upham wrote: ↑Sun Sep 04, 2022 5:01 pmLS fanatics have revised their move order to
